INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) LITERACY

Technology has become an essential tool for the realization of learning and thinking skills in today's knowledge economy. Key elements of ICT Literacy include use of ICT in service of:

  • Information and media literacy skills - Analyzing, accessing, managing, integrating, valuating and creating information in a variety of forms and media. Understanding the role of media in society.
  • Communication skills - Understanding, managing and creating effective oral, written and multimedia communication in a variety of forms and contexts.

This course will introduce 21st Century Communication Tools to Teachers and demonstrate how they can be used effectively in the classroom.

This course is designed to familiarize educators with the issues and skills students need in order to be successful global citizens.  The course will integrate current global issues, as well as the framework for 21st Century learning in order to provide teachers with the tools and resources essential to promoting globally aware students capable of competing in a global society.

 

By focusing on the fundamental skills descriptive of a global citizen, the course aims to enhance the understanding and importance of global topics via a 21st Century Skills approach.  Additionally, the course will prepare educators for the incorporation of international issues and the skills that define a globally aware citizen into their classrooms and preexisting lesson plans.

 

Upon completion of the course, educators will have obtained several resources that will complement their current teaching, while at the same time introduce them to the fundamental skills necessary for the future growth, collaboration, and success of the next generation global learner.

Critical Think-Master

Teaching children to become effective thinkers is increasingly recognized as an immediate goal of education. If students are to function successfully in a highly technical society, then they must be equipped with lifelong learning and thinking skills necessary to acquire and process information in an ever-changing world.

This course is designed to give you, the teacher, an opportunity to develop unique teaching methods and strategies. Both the reading and writing assignments are varied and extensive. You will be responsible for ideas, clarity of thinking, and participation. Learning to think, learning to extract ideas and support your ideas in the public forum is not always easy, but well worth doing. If you can read, think, and express yourself clearly, you have mastered the skills of a life-long learner.

When you complete this course successfully, you will have many materials ready to take straight into your classroom to use!

Skills for Life-MASTER

This six-week online course is part of a three part series on Life Skills. This series is designed to help educators integrate life skills into their teaching strategies and methods. The instruction and activities will provide educators with techniques, activities and resources that will enable them to infuse life skills into any content or lesson plan. Skills for Life focuses on Skills that center around self care and personal responsibility. Becoming a centered and responsible individual begins with self care and perception of those things around us. Skill sets in this course are focused on those that help educators guide students to better self awareness and self-care. While the course is directed at helping educators infuse this knowledge into their teaching, it is also the objective of the developer to enhance those skills in the participant as well, thus creating a win-win for all.

Each week is structured to provide participants with meaningful content, self enhancing exercises and assignments that are meant to challenge and inspire while leaving participants with resources they can use immediately in the classroom. When teachable moments arise, participants of this course will have ready access to tools that they can quickly access to make the most of a life learning situation.
Spring 2009-Lead for Life

This 6 week online is designed to help teachers integrate life skills into their teaching strategies and methods. The instruction and activities will provide teachers with techniques, activities and resources that will enable them to infuse life skills into any content or lesson plan.  Lead for Life focuses on out-directed skills that center on leadership and getting along with others, be it through communities, teams or interpersonal communication. Becoming a well balanced individual is based on many different types of skills that begin with self-care and follow through to leadership and ethics of living in a community. Skill sets in this course are focused on those that help teachers guide students to better communication, social responsibility and leadership. While the course is directed at helping teachers infuse this knowledge into their teaching, it is also the objective of the developer to enhance those skills in the teacher/participant as well, thus creating a win-win for all.
